Ficlet: Christmas Wrapping (PG-13) Kurt/Blaine

Blaine’s exhausted. Or grumpy. Or disillusioned with the corporate greed that has taken over Christmas. Any or all of the above. And it’s the reason Kurt has to walk his dad and Carole down the front stairs of the apartment and make another five minutes of small talk and then none-too-subtly, push them into their waiting cab.

Blaine had waved him off and shook his head and started to clean up the monstrous mess their kitchen is in when Kurt had hinted he should walk them out to curb.

Another Christmas over. The very first at their place. It has been exhausting work and they’d invited too many people but perhaps it was worth it. Kurt sighs and stops waving as the yellow taxi turns the corner and disappears.

Kurt splays his fingers against Blaine’s back, only continuing to stroke with his thumb. “Let me see… okay, here.” He gently nudges Blaine’s chest with his other hand, wanting him to sit back enough to look at him. “If one drop of love was represented by one of those little tiny styrofoam balls they use for fake snow on TV?” He closes one eye and holds his thumb and index finger a scant millimeter apart to indicate the size he means, and Blaine nods, smiling. “And if you filled up this car with enough for how much I love you? Then the car would blow up. There’d just be too many. All the windows would bust out.” He makes a soft exploding sound, his lips pursing, and Blaine laughs.

“That’s a good one. But I think I can top it.” Blaine is grinning now, and Kurt raises a challenging eyebrow. “My mom and I used to do this when I was little.” His face grows wistful, just for a second, but it’s gone just as quickly and the bright smile is back. “I’d say, ‘Mama, how much do you love me? Is it this much?’” He holds his hands about six inches apart, his palms facing. “And she’d say ‘No, more than that.’ I’d say, ‘This much?’” Ten inches apart. “‘No, much more.’ So I’d move them further and further apart, and finally my arms would be at my sides. ‘Thismuch, Mama?’ ‘No, Blaine. This much!’ And she’d move my arms behind me so my hands were touching behind my back. ‘I love you all the way around,’ she’d say.” He doesn’t really have the space now to demonstrate it, but he tries anyway, still wearing that warm, sunny smile, and then drops his hands lightly onto Kurt’s chest. “So that’s how much I love you. All the way around.”
